The U.S. Department of State’s Gilman Scholarship is an undergraduate scholarship program awarding students of limited financial means up to $5,000 to study or intern abroad. Undergraduate students who are U.S. citizens, Federal Pell Grant recipients/candidates, and studying at a two or four-year institution are eligible to apply.
Candidates participating in a STEM course or internship may apply for a STEM supplemental award of up to $1000.Candidates who will be studying a critical need language (Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and others) while abroad in a country or location in which the language is predominantly spoken, may apply for a supplemental award of up to $3,000.
